The Quebec Winegrowers Association (Q.W.A) was created on October
21st, 1987.
Support for winegrowers
Initially five members made up the board of directors. Now seven
administrators manage the Q.W.A., each elected for a three year
term. Elections are held during the annual General Assembly when
a chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer are chosen by
the administrators from among themselves.
Award-winning wines
While we do not claim that our province is a Canadian California,
we have successfully created some original new products that reflect
our countryside and climate, as well as the pride of our winegrowers.
Since February 1995, the Quebec Winegrowers Association and the
Syndicat Viticole des Graves et Graves Supérieures in France
have been joined as sister organizations. Thus the world’s
youngest vineyards and the oldest vineyards of Bordeaux are part
of a a transatlantic professional partnership. The Graves winegrowers’
official recognition of the Quebecois winegrowing has helped shape
our will to be known and to assert ourselves at the provincial,
national and, now with the help of the partnership, the international
level.
In 1997 the Q.W.A celebrated its 10th anniversary. During this
distinguished event, which was held at the “Institut du tourisme
et d'hôtellerie du Québec” in Montreal, a group
of winegrowers announced the creation of “La Noble Confrérie
des vignerons du Québec”. Since then this brotherhood
has welcomed several figures from the gastronomic, journalistic,
political, artistic and viticulture world. More than three hundred
medals speak to the quality of the wines of the Québecois
winegrowers. These gold, silver and bronze medals were won at international
contests including the Concours Mondial Bruxelles Belgium, Vinalies
Internationales Paris France, the Atlanta Wine Summit in Atlanta,
the International Eastern Wine Competition in Watkins Glenn and
the Tasters Guild International Wine Judging.
The quality of their wines is the main goal of the winegrowers,
tasted and drunk at the best restaurants in perfect harmony with
the regional cuisine. They will delight even the finest gourmets.
The vineyards are open to visitors and tourists. Many choose to
combine a tour of the vineyards with visit of the region, which
offers many attractions and fine restaurants. Guided tours of the
vineyards are offered with a reservation, whereas visits without
a tour do not require any reservation.
We recommend, however, that you check the hours of the various
vineyards, which may change according to the season.
The Wine Route
The Association has teamed up with local partners for several years
to publish a tourist brochure entitled "PRENEZ LA ROUTE DES
VINS DU QUÉBEC" (Explore the Wine Route of Québec),
to invite visitors and gourmands to enjoy an escape into nature.
Our wine await you!
